Kohala Deluxe Solid Top Tenor Ukulele

Size Me Up
Sizing Information

Soprano -Soprano is the smallest of the four ukulele body sizes and is the traditional ukulele size.  The Honu Soprano is perfect for kids learning ukulele or for adults who prefer the brighter tone of a traditional ukulele.

Concert -Concert ukuleles are currently the most popular ukulele body size worldwide.  Bigger than a soprano but smaller than a tenor, a concert uke is the perfect middle ground for most players.  This size is suitable for all ages, though small children may be better suited to a soprano.

Tenor -Tenor ukuleles are exploding in popularity thanks to the full, deep sound produced by their larger body size.  Bigger than the concert, the tenor is great for teenagers and adults that are looking for the most volume from their ukulele and extra space for their fingers on the fretboard.

Baritone -As the name suggests, a baritone ukulele is the largest and deepest sounding of all of the ukulele sizes.  Usually tuned like the highest four strings of a guitar (DGBE), rather than the GCEA tuning found on most ukes, a baritone is great if you have a background in guitar because you won't have to learn any new chord shapes.  They are also very fun if you are a ukulele player looking to experiment with a different tone.

Model - Kohala

Kohala Series

The Kohala has all of the aesthetic upgrades of the Mano, including solid top, maple binding, gold tuners, and dual strap pins, but it’s built with acacia wood instead of mahogany. Acacia is revered for its beautiful, full tone and we’ve added abalone-style trim around the body.

Size - Tenor

After a surge in popularity in the last couple of years, the tenor is poised to become the biggest selling uke body size soon.  At 26", it is another increase in size from the concert (at 24").  The benefits of that larger size: you get even more room on the fingerboard to shape the chords and the larger body provides even more resonance, volume and depth.  The tenor ukulele will sound quite a bit deeper than the other options, so it strays a bit from traditional ukulele tone.

    Meet Esmeralda

My third tenor, seventh ukulele overall. Quickly became my favorite instrument and only one worthy of a name. The sound this instrument produces is phenomenal. Solid top Acacia wood produces a sustain that can't be beat. Couldn't be happier with Esmeralda. One thing I really like (took me a couple of days to notice) is the lack of fret buttons on the side of the neck. Gives a nice clean look. My first tenor is officially retired, the Kala Zircote laminate (which was number 1) is now a low g. Overall I highly recommend this product.

    Beautiful instrument

This ukelele has a full rich sound with a long sustain. It’s well built and is excellent value. The abalone accents with the maple binding are very attractive.
This is my second ukelele purchase from Honolua and with both purchases Dave has been very helpful..

Looks Gorgeous And Best Of All Sounds Amazing!

On Thursday, August 13th my wife and I had an appointment in Calgary for the first time since last November.
On the way home we stopped in CrossIron Mills, while wandering around we went into the GuitarWorks store.
They were many different ukuleles, I tried a few, and purchased the Kohala Deluxe Tenor Ukulele that I fell in love with.
It looks gorgeous and sounds so amazing!
Over the last 6 months I have been trying various more upscale ukuleles, many sound and look good, but not like this one.
I was wondering about the wood, it is acacia wood. It looks beautiful, like a lighter Koa. Apparently Koa is a variety of Acacia.
It is a pre-anniversary gift to me from my wife.
I'm loving playing it, and am enjoying it greatly.

It's a beauty and I want to protect it, so I ordered the better gig bag and some felt picks.
I would have purchased one with electronics, but I liked the sound and woodgrain of the one I purchased.

I have a couple of entry Kala brand ukes, which are nice, but really not in the same league.
They will now be gifted down to my younger sons.
I expect there will be more Honolua purchases in the future, as my sons love the new uke.

I have a few guitars, Seagull S6+, Big Baby Taylor, and a Taylor 224ce Koa.
I'd easily put this ukulele in the top of the line with build quality like a Taylor.

If you are looking for a solid, very well built, beautiful ukulele designed in western Canada these are for you!
Get one, you will be very pleased!
